About Architecture
Architecture Drafting and Design in simple terms, is the translation of ideas into technical drawings, detailed, plans, and models for construction of buildings. These buildings could either be residential, commercial, or industrial. When I took this class, I saw an opportunity to help with my understanding of how buildings are drawn and planned out, probably the most important feature of Architecture. With only 3 other kids in my class, and it being a course that hasn't been taught in over 10 years, even Mr. Zeroth, our teacher, learned new things about the study. Me especially, I have done some awesome projects and got to learn really how architecture works.
Architecture Categories Slideshow
To understand the style of architecture and many ways it is used, I made a slideshow about the different ideas that go through the planning of a structure. More importantly, how it stands out to viewers. With 6 examples of architecture, and how they affect the type of building and look to other people, I created a slideshow that had the definition and pictures of what each category looked like.
Shed Model Project
Me and my partner Colby, were tasked to draw out plans for a little shed model, that we would build out of small wood sticks and hot glue as well. We first had to draw each side on paper and measure the correct thicknesses and lengths we needed for each stick and stud. Drawing the studs were the toughest part since we had to space them out every other inch, and make sure that they fit into the shed walls. If we measured studs that were too close, we would've had to start over again. However, me and Colby got through the challenges of drawing and got to assemble the shed. We cut balsa wood sticks and hot glued them together and formed a shed that would help us learn about studs and interior walls.
Simple AutoCAD House Plan
For a very long time, since freshman year, I took a break from our program that we use, AutoCAD. However we stepped back into it and got to designing a simple 2 bedroom house floor plan. It was basically an introduction back into what I have already learned 2 years ago, and made a floor plan that would have just a kitchen, 2 bedrooms, ventilation room, bathroom, and living space. Even though this project wasn't necessarily graded, we still got to learn more about the program and get ready for our upcoming main project.
Floor Plan in AutoCAD
After getting in the works in AutoCAD, I wanted to make a bigger, better, and overall more detailed house plan. Now dealing with a 3 bedroom, 2 bath house with a garage and basement. I felt like this was one of my favorite projects, since this helped me a lot with designing houses and learning how to correctly measure as the plans that I was given were not specified enough, so I tweaked some things. Also including a sectional detail drawing, which I have never done before, I had to annotate and determine how the foundation is built and what goes on underneath the house. In the end though, I felt like this was one of my best projects.
Floor Plan Elevations
To show more details not just inside the house, but also outside, I created the elevations for the Scottsdale house. Making the outer walls blue and a grey shingled roof, I really love the overall color and style of the home. However I did face some challenges on the way, like trying to line up the roof to the porch and chimney and making sure it doesn't look uneven. Out of all 4 sides, I found the East view the hardest, due to the back porch and front one as well. Overall, I think this was a great beginning project that would get me into learning how to properly design a house.
REVIT Garage
To get a perspective on how REVIT works and what to make, and more importantly, how to command the tools, we needed to create a simple plan that didn't involve too much. So we were tasked with a simple garage plan that involved two sectional garage doors, a front entrance door, two rooms, and plenty of surrounding windows. We had to include the elevations, the floor plan, and even the sectional drawing as well.
REVIT Tiny Home
Before we could into our main REVIT project, we had to go a step further and create a one bedroom, one bath house that had an open room with a kitchen, living space, and dining table. I made it so that the roof was different and had an elevated pitch to it but not two-sided. I also wanted huge windows in the front so light could shine in through almost the entire house.
REVIT Limestone Creek House
To finish off my projects and designing buildings on REVIT, I decided to go with Limestone Creek, a two bedroom, 2 bath, 1 story house. This family sized home included many closets, a living room, a downstairs, master bed, kitchen, dining room, and more. I printed out many sheets in order for the viewer to get a real perspective on what is being built and how, showing the square footage, elevation views, sectional, and even 3d pictorial drawings. I feel like these plans turned out great.
